In 1826, Nicéphore Niepce discovered the photograph. What a revolution!
To be made "draw the portrait" became for certain a play, for others an obligation, a tradition in the family festivals or a recreation of fair. In the absence of gallery of ancestors, the easy families constituted their album of family.
Mais1a photographs black and white was sad, life lack also, one raised it with the hand with color. Artists “retouchers†reflect pink with the cheeks! blue with the eyes, red with the lips. The dress with flowers taken again its multicoloured colors, like the bouquet behind the old lady or the toys close to the small child.
The silhouette, the bust or the photograph supplement was cut out and stuck against on a wood panel. Often the painters invented a decoration around each character: the child found himself on a beach which it had never seen, the large father in an armchair which it had never had, the girl in the middle of a flowered veranda to which she perhaps dreamed. Large Masters of the time raised, says one, of the postcards to round their end of month. The reproduction of work of art was differently simplified, raised with the pencil, with the watercolour or with oil it was often spectacular.
And the photo color came...
It was finished by it colored photographs whose we discover the obsolete charm now.
More than 100 parts of all styles - portraits, mythological subjects, scenes of kind, clipboards, plates decorative - will be exposed and sold of the November 1 to 30,1986. |
